Need Help With Meal Planning

Calling all folks in the blogosphere, I need some help. Currently in the Dunlap household, meals are planned on the fly. This has become frustrating and totally unhealthy for my family. I am ready to make some drastic changes. That is where you come in. How do you do meal planning? How much in advance do you plan? What about grocery shopping? What works for you? If you are not able to leave comments, please email me at dunlap9499@gvtc.com

I look forward to seeing how it is done by others.

Help me make our meals go from this.......

To this......

My husband is meat and potatoes, too. He wants dinner every night. I could exist on Lean Cuisine, but apparently his mother spoiled him by cooking dinner every night. Think about this... do you really want to do this to your future daughter-in-law? Just joking. I plan my meals a week in advance. I usually do frozen pizza or something quick on Saturday and Sunday because I refuse to cook seven days a week. I do easy meals like spaghetti, burgers and fries, grilled chicken, and my old friend, Hamburger Helper. Seriously, don't wear yourself out cooking every night. Just make a meal plan and stick to it. I always do a main dish, a veggie, and a bread. For instance, if we had spaghetti, we would do corn and garlic bread. For burgers, I usually do burgers, fries, and salad. I have a few good cooking blogs listed on my blog that have good, simple, family-tested recipes.

We probably do way too much frozen stuff, but it is quick and good on a busy work night. Especially when the kid has a lot of activities. We do many good frozen pizzas (margherita, pesto, chicken, veggie - no pepperoni), also Bertolli pasta bags, etc but always pair it with a salad, fruit, vegetable. Scratch most extra breads, too many carbs. We plan a "real meal" maybe twice a week. Keep a running shopping list and put all the ingredients on it and designate days for cooking. Hannah is old enough now that she has to cook one night a week too. Plan weekly, buy weekly. Helps with the meals, the budget, and keeping fresher items. Hope this helps. :-)

Who Knew? Update Version..... Please pass it on.
